Contemporary, Boys only, Muscle and Bone, Mastering Movement and Troupe.

Raisedinland Iose is 21 years of age and started his dance training at Manurewa High School in south Auckland. Here, he competed in mega-schools as a hip hop dancer, where he was taught by some of NZ’s most well known hip hop pioneers such as Alister Salaivao from Prestige Dance Crew. During high school Rai had his rst encounter with contemporary dance at a class delivered by New Zealand Dance Company’s current dancer Chrissy Kokiri and instantly fell in love with the art form.

After his encounter with NZDC, Rai decided to pursue his contemporary dance training at Unitec and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts, Majoring in Contemporary Dance. At Unitec, Rai trained in all aspects of contemporary dance technique as well as in ballet. Throughout his three years of full time study Rai had the privilege of learning under and dancing for Michael Parmenter, a pioneer of NZ contemporary dance and choreography, Nancy Wi-John, Kelly Nash, Tupua Tigafua and Josh Cesan.

Directly out of University, Rai received his rst professional dance contract in the world premier of Michael Parmenter’s OrphEus as the understudy of the lead male role as well as featuring in the ensemble. Following this, Rai had the privilege of being a part of NZDC’s 2018 Autumn School as a tutor, and has since danced for Sean McDonald and Lucy Marinkovich in this year’s season of Tamaki Tour with NZDC.
